{"id":6595,"date":"2017-05-02T16:44:53","date_gmt":"2017-05-02T20:44:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/?p=6595"},"modified":"2017-05-09T14:53:06","modified_gmt":"2017-05-09T18:53:06","slug":"student-earns-perfect-score-workplace-readiness-skills-assessment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/student-earns-perfect-score-workplace-readiness-skills-assessment\/","title":{"rendered":"Student earns perfect score on Workplace Readiness Skills assessment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since 2011, the Career and Technical Education Consortium of States (CTECS) Workplace Readiness Skills for the Commonwealth Assessment has been administered to more than 11,000 Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) students.<\/p>\n<p>Cameron Brown has the distinction of being the first VBCPS student to earn a perfect score.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/CameronBrownWorkplaceReadiness.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6596\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/CameronBrownWorkplaceReadiness.jpg\" alt=\"CameronBrownWorkplaceReadiness\" width=\"5184\" height=\"3888\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/CameronBrownWorkplaceReadiness.jpg 5184w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/CameronBrownWorkplaceReadiness-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/CameronBrownWorkplaceReadiness-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/CameronBrownWorkplaceReadiness-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/CameronBrownWorkplaceReadiness-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 5184px) 100vw, 5184px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Advanced Technology Center engineering technology I student and Kellam High School junior is one of 28 students in Virginia to earn a perfect score this year, according to Dr. Sara Lockett, VBCPS director of technical and career education.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very proud of Cameron\u2019s accomplishment,\u201d said Lockett. \u201cVirginia Beach is a national leader in Workplace Readiness testing and promotes it as the base of our stackable credential model.\u00a0The original Workplace Readiness curriculum was written by VBCPS educators in partnership with the CTE Resource Center and the Weldon Cooper Center at the University of Virginia.\u00a0The work was part of a grant project with our workforce development partners at Opportunity Inc.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the CTECS website, the CTECS Workplace Readiness Skills Assessment is also used in Nevada, Maine and Idaho. Lockett indicated that there have been seven perfect scores in other states this school year.<\/p>\n<p>The division will continue administering the assessment through May 19, so there is still time for more students to earn perfect scores. Brown, however, will forever have the distinction of being the first perfect score for VBCPS.
