Christopher Farms Elementary School (CFES) is rolling out the red carpet for some celebrities of its own.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6063\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"Photo 1\" width=\"2498\" height=\"1665\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-1-1.jpg 2498w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-1-1-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-1-1-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-1-1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-1-1-400x267.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2498px) 100vw, 2498px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s Grandparents Week at CFES, and the school\u2019s PTA added extra glitz and gold to the cafeteria foyer to make visitors feel like Hollywood stars. It also supports this year\u2019s schoolwide theme of \u201cLights, Camera, Take Action!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lunch tables were covered in black and gold tablecloths and adorned with film reels and gold statuettes. Background music by Frank Sinatra, popcorn from a vintage machine and a VIP photo booth completed the cinematic theme.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6064\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-2-1.jpg\" alt=\"Photo 2\" width=\"1366\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-2-1.jpg 1366w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-2-1-300x169.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-2-1-768x432.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-2-1-1024x576.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-2-1-400x225.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1366px) 100vw, 1366px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The school used to host an event for grandparents on a day before the Thanksgiving holiday. The participation was so great that it was expanded to an entire week a few years ago, according to CFES Principal Teri Breaux.<\/p>\n<p>Why celebrate in February when National Grandparents Day is on the calendar for September?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause we <em>love<\/em> our grandparents,\u201d said Breaux, so the PTA intentionally schedules the special event for the week of Valentine\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n<p>CFES parent and PTA volunteer Monica Cook, who helped with the Hollywood decorations, manned the photo booth during lunches on Valentine\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust watching the grandparents, especially today, it\u2019s really exciting to see them come in and spend time with the kids,\u201d said Cook.<\/p>\n<p>Phillip Hull, who retired in July, remembers the Grandparents Week crowds when he was working at CFES. Now he\u2019s joining the festivities with his wife Sharon and their granddaughter Keira Hull.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6065\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-3-1.jpg\" alt=\"Photo 3\" width=\"2508\" height=\"1672\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-3-1.jpg 2508w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-3-1-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-3-1-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-3-1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-3-1-400x267.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2508px) 100vw, 2508px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s my job to give her whatever she wants whenever she wants it,\u201d said Phillip.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s different from raising your children,\u201d said Sharon of being a grandparent. \u201cYou can have all the fun you want with them and give them so much that maybe you couldn\u2019t when you were a working parent. You can spend more time with them and do activities with them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Keira\u2019s favorite activity with her grandparents puts her in charge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like to play school with them. I pretend to be the teacher and they\u2019re the students,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s a very tough teacher,\u201d added Sharon. \u201cBut she\u2019s my sweetheart. After three boys [of my own], she\u2019s my little angel. She\u2019s the only grandchild so we love coming in and meeting her friends from school and they get to know me. It\u2019s just fun spending time with her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Celebrating their first Grandparents Week at CFES were Dottie and Charles Goldman whose two grandsons are new to the school. He was in the Pacific.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Second-grader Alicia Ortiz also appreciated the time to talk with her grandmother, who lives in Florida half of the year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really like it because I at least get to see her because she lives far away,\u201d Ortiz.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6067\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-5-1.jpg\" alt=\"Photo 5\" width=\"1583\" height=\"2374\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-5-1.jpg 1583w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-5-1-200x300.jpg 200w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-5-1-768x1152.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-5-1-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Photo-5-1-400x600.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1583px) 100vw, 1583px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A second-grader nearby clarified that his lunch guest was not his grandmother.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s Emie!\u201d he announced. \u201cWhen I was little I couldn\u2019t make up a hard name like grandma, so I just called her Emie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After finishing the McDonald\u2019s lunch and hot fudge sundae Emie brought, he said, \u201cI want her to come have lunch with me forever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s an invitation Emie welcomes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love coming to have lunch with my special boy. It\u2019s so much fun and it\u2019s very important. It helps to encourage them more.
