The eighth annual event is the culmination of an initiative that engages students in grades K-12 in after school STEM activities throughout the school year.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-5388\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/STEM-Trifecta-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"STEM Trifecta\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/STEM-Trifecta-1024x683.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/STEM-Trifecta-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/STEM-Trifecta-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/STEM-Trifecta-400x267.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>More than 60 elementary, middle and high schools sent 200 teams and 400 robots to the event held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. Students participated in one of three areas \u2013 Cybersecurity Challenge, Maker Challenge and Robotics Challenge \u2013 and award winners were named in each category.<\/p>\n<p>The Cybersecurity Challenge was a new category for the 2016 event.\u00a0Participating high school students were randomly placed in teams at the event to defend a cyber breach\u00a0created by the U.S. Fleet Cyber Command.
