The high school performers hope younger students will learn important lessons as well.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-5075\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/frog-face-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"frog face\" width=\"584\" height=\"438\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/frog-face-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/frog-face-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/frog-face-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/frog-face-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cChildren\u2019s theatre exposes young audiences to important messages that will help them develop social skills and help them with conflict resolution,&#8221; said one VPAA senior.<\/p>\n<p>Another senior performer added, &#8220;The morals taught by children&#8217;s shows teach kids more positive and peaceful approaches to problem-solving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>VPAA theatre teacher Sharon Byrd summarizes the one-act play based on a Native American legend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018The Jumping Mouse\u2019 is the tale of a compassionate, courageous mouse who journeys to a far-off land, travels beyond the plains, climbs the top of sacred mountain and ultimately becomes a magnificent soaring eagle. The story encourages us to be kind, selfless, believe in ourselves and have faith in our dreams and what we know to be true in our hearts,\u201d said Byrd.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-5076\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/jumping-mouse-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"jumping mouse\" width=\"584\" height=\"438\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/jumping-mouse-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/jumping-mouse-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/jumping-mouse-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/jumping-mouse-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>She explained that the VPAA organized its senior theatre students into touring groups beginning last year. They refer to the touring arm as the Academy Children&#8217;s Theater Company (ACTC).<\/p>\n<p>This year, three groups of 10 students each are visiting elementary schools. Performers bring a story to life with minimal set, props and costumes and without extra lights or technology. Students in the Visual Arts strand help create some set pieces and costumes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5077\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/set.jpg\" alt=\"set\" width=\"3126\" height=\"2344\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe began the ACTC as a way for seniors to demonstrate the complete\u00a0transfer of knowledge from a theoretical understanding of playwriting, directing, producing and acting\u00a0to the act of\u00a0doing,\u201d said Byrd. \u201cIt is the ownership of theatre that we hope to impart to them on their way forward. The seniors have learned the difficult process of creating theatre from scratch and the effectiveness of providing theatre for our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the goal of the performers is to move their audiences and leave a lasting impression, the touring seniors have been impacted as well.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The joy we get from watching our audience is priceless!
