The school division\u2019s Office of Technical and Career Education hosted the event that challenged students to develop and design a product to be produced on a 3D printer.<\/p>\n<p>In the pre-production phase of the Maker Expo, students worked after school using materials provided by Junior Achievement of Hampton Roads to produce a prototype that fit one of the following three themes: environmental, technology or wearables\/fashion. Each team was also required to produce a product infomercial to be judged in advance of the Maker Expo event.<\/p>\n<p>During the second phase of the Maker Expo, students used desktop 3D printers at the event to produce as many products as possible in one hour in addition to delivering a three-minute pitch to judges to explain and promote their creations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Printing-at-Expo.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4793\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4793\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Printing-at-Expo.jpg\" alt=\"Printing at Expo\" width=\"2370\" height=\"1580\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Printing-at-Expo.jpg 2370w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Printing-at-Expo-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Printing-at-Expo-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Printing-at-Expo-1024x683.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Printing-at-Expo-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2370px) 100vw, 2370px\" \/><\/a>Before their Maker Expo presentation, the Wire Clippies team from White Oaks Elementary School practiced in a corner.\u00a0They demonstrated how their clips could hold together a wrapped USB chord, complete with a piece that allows users to attach the clip on their key chains or belt loops.<\/p>\n<p>Were they nervous to see the judges?<\/p>\n<p>The four-member team responded in unison with three \u201cyeses\u201d and one \u201cno.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe has the hardest part,\u201d said one student in defense of his teammate\u2019s negative reply. \u201cShe has all the math.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A second, more confident White Oaks team member said, \u201cI practiced last night.
