Over the years, Elaine Lombardi\u2019s students have made several hundred fleece hats for donation to various charities. Past recipient organizations included Lee\u2019s Friends, The Judeo-Christian Outreach Center and First Baptist Church Bolling Brook.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Lombardi-001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4496\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Lombardi-001.jpg\" alt=\"Lombardi 001\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Lombardi-001.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Lombardi-001-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Lombardi-001-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a>This year, child and infant-size hats are being donated to Edmarc Hospice and the adult-size hats are being donated to The Doorways, a former hotel that has been converted into a live-in facility for patients who need to remain close to medical specialists while in treatment and recovery.<\/p>\n<p>This project hits close to home.<\/p>\n<p>Lombardi\u2019s son in law, Tim, was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia, and received a bone marrow transplant in 2014.\u00a0 During his five-month treatment period he became notorious for his warm hats.<\/p>\n<p>Cancer patients who receive chemotherapy lose all their hair and many of them wear hats, scarves, or wigs for warmth. With the help of Tim\u2019s delivery service, Renaissance Academy Teen Living students are able to donate these hats to The Doorways so that other patients can have something warm and comfortable during their treatment and recovery.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Teen Living students at the Renaissance Academy are warming some heads and hearts this winter.
