The program\u00a0is designed to educate parents and students about state and local laws governing new drivers as well as the school division\u2019s behind-the-wheel driver\u2019s education program offered in 10<sup>th<\/sup> grade.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Partners-for-Safe-Driving-logo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4247\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Partners-for-Safe-Driving-logo.jpg\" alt=\"Partners for Safe Driving logo\" width=\"1066\" height=\"268\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Partners-for-Safe-Driving-logo.jpg 1066w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Partners-for-Safe-Driving-logo-300x75.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Partners-for-Safe-Driving-logo-1024x257.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Partners-for-Safe-Driving-logo-500x126.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1066px) 100vw, 1066px\" \/><\/a>The Partners for Safe Driving program also emphasizes parents\u2019 important role in the learning process and monitoring of new drivers, noting that distracted driving continues to be an issue on the roads, especially for young drivers. The VBPD reports that more than 1,500 reported crashes last year involved drivers 15-20 years of age, and the most common causative factors of the crashes were found to be driver inattention, conversing with passengers, cellphone usage, focusing on roadside incidents and listening to the radio or music.<\/p>\n<p>Parents and students are invited to attend the Partners for Safe Teen Driving program session scheduled for their high school.\u00a0The session will involve school division Behind-the-Wheel instructors, 10<sup>th<\/sup> grade health and physical education teachers, school resource officers and school administrators.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about the program, please contact your child\u2019s high school or the Office of Secondary Teaching and Learning at 757-263-1070.
