For students in the Global Studies and World Languages Academy, this school year has already had an impressive start.<\/p>\n

To begin, two Global Studies students, Andrew Clark and Richard Fetter, were elected to the Board of the Sister Cities Association of Virginia Beach. Clark and Fetter were presented the keys of the city and the official notebook of all board members by Ruth Fraser, representing the Mayor’s Office.<\/p>\n

From another political post, former ambassador Bismarck Myrick spoke to students at Tallwood on “What it takes to Become an Ambassador.\u201d Myrick served in Liberia and Lesotho and is currently Ambassador-in-Residence and Lecturer at Old Dominion University. He is the Vice President of the World Affairs Council (in which the Global Studies students at Tallwood are involved). Students learned about what the foreign service does, how to apply, and were able to ask questions of the former Ambassador.<\/p>\n

Finally, students got to embark on travels all their own. One crew of students took part in the sister city trip to Olonpago, Philippines<\/a>. Additionally, recently, ten students and their German teacher traveled to Germany as part of the Global Studies and World Language exchange program at Tallwood.
