For <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/\">NASA<\/a> astronaut Scott Kelly, that\u2019s all just part of the job. And when this NASA astronaut visited school, this was a huge hit for students.<\/p>\n<p>Kelly stopped by Alanton Elementary School to talk about his time in space \u2013 he has made three trips to space so far and will return for his fourth journey next March. \u00a0Kelly\u2019s daughter, Charlotte, is a fifth-grader at the school, and he took time to answer questions from fifth-grade classes.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2439\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2439\" style=\"width: 1556px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_6154.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2439\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_6154.jpg\" alt=\"NASA astronaut Scott Kelly demonstrated the effect of gravity on water.\" width=\"1556\" height=\"1037\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_6154.jpg 1556w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_6154-300x199.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_6154-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_6154-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1556px) 100vw, 1556px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2439\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">NASA astronaut Scott Kelly demonstrated the effect of gravity on water.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For the record, Kelly has never had astronaut ice cream in space, Hollywood took a lot of license with the movie, <em>Gravity<\/em>, and, as for being in zero gravity, according to Kelly, it has its ups and downs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFloating is fun,\u201d Kelly said with a smile. \u201cIt also makes most things harder.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For example, looking around the school\u2019s library, Kelly asked the students to imagine trying to get work done while all the books were floating around the room at that moment.<\/p>\n<p>And there is a lot of work getting done in the space station.<\/p>\n<p>Kelly said that while in space,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\"> NASA<\/a> will have about 150 experiments going on. Due to their matching genetics, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">NASA<\/a> will also perform some experiments comparing the effects of space from brother to brother.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great,\u201d Kelly said. \u201cIt\u2019s a real privilege to be able to do this as a job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The greatest perk of his job, though, is shockingly not the adrenaline rush of orbiting space, the historic missions or even the intergalactic views.\u00a0The best part of his job is\u00a0the challenge and the rigor that come with his work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChoose interests\u00a0that challenge you,\u201d Kelly said. \u201cThe harder it is, the prouder of yourself you should be when you master it.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Going 17,500 miles per hour, shooting through the atmosphere and boldly launching into space.
