Sixth grade social studies students at Bayside Middle School recently explored how\u00a0today&#8217;s social media tools would have influenced the heroes of the American Revolutionary War. Students created Facebook pages with conversations between people such as Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, Phillis Wheatley and John Adams.<\/p>\n<p>Sixth grade social studies teachers Kenneth Reichert and Christine Bullard asked their classes to apply their knowledge of history in creating the mock social\u00a0\u00a0media posts. Students worked with templates that did not publish the Facebook pages online. The process began with students using researched to write a profile of their chosen figure.\u00a0Next they created posts and comments from historic friends of the period.
