{"id":1687,"date":"2014-03-20T19:18:05","date_gmt":"2014-03-20T19:18:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/?p=1687"},"modified":"2014-03-24T20:35:19","modified_gmt":"2014-03-24T20:35:19","slug":"ms-virginia-international-visits-linkhorn-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/ms-virginia-international-visits-linkhorn-park\/","title":{"rendered":"Mrs. Virginia International visits Linkhorn Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>This post was written by VBCPS Partnership Coordinator Laura Smart.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Students at Linkhorn Park Elementary School had a unique opportunity to prepare for Tuesday\u2019s Tornado Drill.<\/p>\n<p>This is part of a statewide effort to ensure that all students would be able to follow the emergency plan in place at schools in case this catastrophic weather condition were to hit the area.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Virginia International 2014, Cheryl Nelson, a meteorologist by trade, met with third- and fourth-graders to discuss how they could best prepare for this natural disaster. Just that dialogue will raise an awareness that all families should develop an emergency plan to stay safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following the \u201cofficial Tornado Drill\u201d that all schools in the division participated in , select students joined in a round table discussion about natural disasters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is an excellent curricular tie-in and the timing was perfect for Mrs. Virginia\u2019s visit,\u201d shares Linkhorn Park principal Barbara Sessoms. \u201cWe never know what weather conditions we could be faced with here in Virginia Beach and the community needs to be prepared so we can all stay safe.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This post was written by VBCPS Partnership Coordinator Laura Smart.
