<\/a>After reading news coverage of Beemer\u2019s real life quest to take to Mars, staff at Plaza reached out to her to see if she would be interested in speaking to students. She immediately accepted the invitation to talk to the students and answer their questions.<\/p>\nAnd, questions they had plenty.<\/p>\n
What if the other astronauts she is selected with don\u2019t speak English?<\/p>\n
What happens if you get sick?<\/p>\n
What are the requirements to go to Mars?<\/p>\n
Do you think you will run into Martians?<\/p>\n
However, it did not take long for the one question on most people\u2019s minds: Why do you want to go?<\/p>\n
Beemer explained that when she was growing up, she saw the first images from the Mars Exploration Rover and that experience has never left her.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a goal I\u2019ve had for a very long time,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
However, it\u2019s more than just a life goal, she explained. It\u2019s the next step in the exploration of the world.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt sounds kind of silly \u2013 why would anyone want to go to Mars?\u201d Beemer told the students. \u201cWe will never know those answers until we send people there\u2026(and) If they\u2019re going to send anyone, it might as well be me.\u201d<\/p>\n
