Students from Teen Living, Tech Ed and art classes had an opportunity to learn about robotics through an interdisciplinary-lesson and then applied their knowledge through hands-on activities using Legos.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1425\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1425\" style=\"width: 1097px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/Col.-Kirk-Davis.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1425\" alt=\"Renaissance volunteer Col. Kirk Davis, US Army (Ret) helps Ta\u2019nyah Harper and Diamond Newsome to locate some of the Lego pieces as they follow the step by step assembly plan for their project.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Students worked in pairs to build their \u201cpick and place\u201d robots which basically utilize a mechanism, similar to a human hand, to grasp and move objectives. Assembling the model following the pictorial directions was more challenging than most students initially thought. Clearly, we need to continue to encourage an interest in STEM so the more exposure they have to opportunities like this, the better.
