Students applied for the contest by sending in project ideas that used Science, Technology, Engineer and Math (STEM) objectives to try and solve an issue in their community.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"http:\/\/3blmedia.com\/News\/CSR\/Fifty-One-Public-Schools-Across-Country-Named-State-Winners-2-Million-Samsung-Solve\">Samsung press release<\/a>, the state winners were chosen from more than 2,300 applicants. Additionally, for being named a state winner, Plaza students will continue to the national competition and have to submit a short video documenting their project.
