The changes have come about because the American Council on Education, which administers the GED program, joined forces with the education and testing company Pearson, to develop a test aligned with the Common Core State Standards.

While the new GED will continue to provide adults the opportunity to earn a high school
credential, and measure career and college-readiness skills, there will be some major changes from years past. One of the biggest differences will be the format in which the test is given. Rather than a standard pencil and paper test, the GED will be administered via computer. This means those taking the GED will have to get accustomed to doing an essay on the computer with a keyboard.

In addition, there will be changes in the rigor of the test content in the subject areas of literacy, mathematics, science and social studies.

“We encourage those interested in pursuing their GED to come out and learn how to be better prepared for the changes and opportunities that lie ahead,” said Paul Palombo, director of the VBCPS Adult Learning Center. “Your future is in your hands.”

The 2014 GED® Test Information Night – Your Future is Calling will be held at the Adult Learning Center located at 4160 Virginia Beach Blvd. For more information on the GED or information night, call 757.648.6050.

It’s never too late.
