{"id":1117,"date":"2013-11-01T14:39:07","date_gmt":"2013-11-01T14:39:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/?p=1117"},"modified":"2013-11-05T20:16:24","modified_gmt":"2013-11-05T20:16:24","slug":"shadrach-the-dragon-gets-a-new-home-at-bayside","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/shadrach-the-dragon-gets-a-new-home-at-bayside\/","title":{"rendered":"Shadrach the Dragon gets a new home at Bayside"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Shadrach the Dragon made his first public appearance in Virginia Beach\u00a0at the Bayside High School Homecoming Parade last week.\u00a0 The massive dragon was handcrafted by a friend of Rachel Gardner, a social studies teacher at Bayside. Shadrach was created for the 2012-13 theater season at the Columbia Marionette Theater in South Carolina. At the end of the season, Shadrach was to be retired and \u201csent to live on the dragon farm on the outskirts of town.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/BHSShadrach-ceiling.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1139\" alt=\"BHSShadrach ceiling\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/BHSShadrach-ceiling-300x224.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/BHSShadrach-ceiling-300x224.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/BHSShadrach-ceiling-1024x764.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/BHSShadrach-ceiling-401x300.jpg 401w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, he was so loved by all who saw him that a plea was put out for someone to \u201cfoster\u201d him rather than allow him to be destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>Gardner saw an opportunity. She made the trek to South Carolina to bring Shadrach to Bayside.<\/p>\n<p>Shadrach is currently hanging from Gardner&#8217;s 16 foot ceiling.\u00a0 Gardner added that dragons tie in with parts of\u00a0her World History I curriculum\u00a0thus her reason for driving\u00a0to South Carolina to save him.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1140\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1140\" style=\"width: 584px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vbcpsblogs.com\/core\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Parade-80.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1140\" alt=\"Shadrach briefly left the classroom to march in the Bayside Homecoming Parade.
